The Abu Simbel temples are two massive rock temples in Nubia, southern Egypt. They were built during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC as a lasting monument to himself and his queen Nefertari. The temples were relocated to their current location in the 1960s to avoid their flooding during the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
