Qarun Lake is a large lake located in the Fayoum Oasis, Egypt, about 100 km southwest of Cairo. It is known for its rich fish resources, bird-watching opportunities, and ancient remains. The lake is surrounded by many ancient remains, the most famous of which is the Qarun Palace, built by the Persian king Darius I.
Wadi El Rayan is a protected area in Egypt's desert, about 160 km southwest of Cairo. It is known for its two large artificial lakes, the Lower and the Upper lakes, that were built in the 20th century for irrigation and hydroelectric power generation. Wadi El Rayan is also known for its beautiful waterfalls and hot springs. It is also considered as an important wetland for migratory birds, and it is considered as a Ramsar site.
