Si tratta di due imponenti templi rupestri situati nel sud dell'Egitto, vicino al confine con il Sudan. Furono costruiti durante il regno del faraone Ramses II nel XIII secolo a.C. e sono considerati una delle realizzazioni architettoniche più impressionanti dell'antico Egitto. I due templi sono stati spostati negli anni '60 per evitare che venissero inondati durante la costruzione dell'Alta Diga di Assuan. Il tempio più grande è dedicato a Ramses II e presenta all'ingresso quattro statue del faraone alte 20 metri, mentre il tempio più piccolo è dedicato alla sua regina, Nefertari. I templi di Abu Simbel rimangono una delle principali destinazioni turistiche dell'Egitto e sono una testimonianza della grandezza della cultura e dell'architettura dell'antico Egitto.
