Ce temple comprend deux temples rocheux massifs situés dans le sud de l'Égypte, près de la frontière avec le Soudan. Ils ont été construits sous le règne du pharaon Ramsès II au XIIIe siècle avant J.-C. et sont considérés comme l'une des réalisations architecturales les plus impressionnantes de l'Égypte ancienne. Ces deux temples ont été déplacés dans les années 1960 pour éviter qu'ils ne soient inondés lors de la construction du haut barrage d'Assouan. Le plus grand temple est dédié à Ramsès II et comporte quatre statues de 20 mètres de haut du pharaon à son entrée, tandis que le plus petit temple est dédié à sa reine, Néfertari. Les temples d'Abou Simbel restent l'une des principales destinations touristiques d'Égypte et témoignent de la grandeur de la culture et de l'architecture de l'Égypte ancienne.
