Dieser Tempel besteht aus zwei massiven Felsentempeln im Süden Ägyptens, nahe der Grenze zum Sudan. Sie wurden während der Herrschaft von Pharao Ramses II. im 13. Jahrhundert v. Chr. erbaut und gelten als eine der beeindruckendsten architektonischen Leistungen des alten Ägypten. Die beiden Tempel wurden in den 1960er Jahren verlegt, um ihre Überflutung während des Baus des Assuan-Hochdamms zu verhindern. Der größere Tempel ist Ramses II. gewidmet und beherbergt vier 20 Meter hohe Statuen des Pharaos an seinem Eingang, während der kleinere Tempel seiner Königin Nefertari gewidmet ist. Die Tempel von Abu Simbel gehören nach wie vor zu den beliebtesten Reisezielen Ägyptens und sind ein Zeugnis für die Erhabenheit der altägyptischen Kultur und Architektur.
